James D. Warring – 1 On 1 Interview
How do you like to spend your free time?
I can’t say I have a lot of free time, but I do love playing golf when I can. I am a member at Manor Country Club, which is a great club for families and golfers alike. I love spending time w/my children. Like most small business owners, I find it difficult to switch off from work completely. I look forward to the time when I am totally unplugged on my annual trip with my son. This year we traveled Yellowstone National Park.
What is your favorite part about living in the Washington, DC or Baltimore metro areas?
Change of seasons and culture. Two totally different cities offering so many different experiences. I am a lifetime Orioles and Ravens fan and a part time Redskins fan. Loved the Joe Gibbs/John Riggins era. I have big hopes for RG3 bringing the ‘Skins back to championship form. Would be great to have a battle of the beltway.
Tell me about your family and those you care about.
I have 3 children who I adore. Twins Blake and Alyssa are 7 and a handful. My 14 yo son, Justin, is entering into his high school years so I expect a lot of fun and challenges are ahead of me. My Mom is a huge part of my life and she works very hard to help things run smoothly both personally and professionally for me.
What is the craziest/most adventurous thing you have ever done? Or if you haven’t done anything like that, what would you like to do?
I have an adventurous side but it has curtailed with my kids and my business. Priorities shift over time! But in my hey day, I enjoyed doing adventurous things like Skydiving, motorcycle riding, deep sea scuba diving,
The old standby….”If you were trapped on a desert island, what 3 things would you bring with you?
What’s a special skill, talent, or hobby you have that people wouldn’t know about by just meeting you a handful of times?
Really good poker player. I cashed in my 2nd time competing in the WSPO (World Series of Poker) Tournament! I was in the top 8% of all the players.
What do you think are the best things that you, personally and professionally, bring to EagleStone and our clients?
Integrated financial background – having the CPA/tax experience and the CFP/ investment management experience – being able to blend those two distinctly different worlds together. Embracing people as family members. I’ve been told that I have a way of making people feel at ease, and earn their trust/open up in a way that makes them feel comfortable about talking about their financial profile, which is a highly private and personal part of our clients’ lives.
What is the value proposition of EagleStone?
One stop convenience – all accounting, tax work, investment management
We also become much more than a financial advisor – to many of our clients we become another member of their family, helping them make decisions about things that extend beyond just their investments.
What is your favorite part of your job?
The people. Our clients and my staff are what make me enjoy coming to work every day. The overall satisfaction knowing that our efforts actually do help make people’s lives better. They are happier and more fulfilled knowing they have someone they can trust working on their behalf.
